Tom Gates, CFP®
Thomas M. Gates, CFP® is a Financial Strategist responsible for client financial strategy and counsel, comprehensive financial planning and investment management. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and History at the University of Richmond. Additionally Tom received his M.A. and M.S. degrees in Organizational Development and Finance respectively. He is a Certified Financial Planner™, a Certified Cash Manager, and a member of the Financial Planning Association.
Prior to joining JoycePayne Partners, Tom has spent 30 years in the wealth management and commercial banking industries. Most recently, Tom served as Senior Vice President and Private Client Manager with US Trust Company-Richmond. Before that stint, Tom worked for Wachovia Bank where he spent 20 years as Senior Vice President in wealth management and Sales Manager for Mid-Atlantic Business Banking. As a wealth manager, he provided comprehensive financial services to affluent families, private business owners, real estate investors, corporate executives. And professionals. As a commercial banker, Tom has extensive experience in assisting businesses and professional practices in managing their income statement as well as both sides of their balance sheets.
Tom is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Professional and Continuing Studies at the University of Richmond where for 20 years he has taught subjects in finance, investments and entrepreneurship. He is a retired Major of Field Artillery, United States Army.
Tom and his wife, Annette live in Richmond and spend a great deal of their leisure time at Liberty Hill Farm in Clark County, VA. They have one grown son, Hank, an attorney.
